This is part five of a five-part series on Mantra Meditation.
I’m sure you’ve heard that there are benefits to meditation, but maybe you’re wondering just what some of those benefits are…
First, let me share some of the benefits I’ve noticed the most in my own personal practice.
Relaxation: It goes without saying that taking time for oneself and breathing deeply while repeating a mantra would produce a relaxation response, but the amazing thing is, the relaxed feeling isn’t just when you are sitting. It spills over into the other 23 hours and 40 minutes of your day as well. This isn’t a tired kind of relaxed I’m speaking of. It’s actually an energized kind of relaxed.
Peace of Mind: Similar to relaxation, but just an overall sense that all is well, no matter what. That is what I call ‘Peace of Mind’.
Greater Focus and Clarity of Thought: Probably related to the relaxation and peace of mind I get from meditation. I find that my mind is more clear and I’m much less distracted.
Greater Insights into Problems: The insights gained during mediation can be outside of what my conscious mind is normally able to come up with. Meditation seems to clear the clutter and allow solutions to problems to make their way into my awareness.
Greater Creativity: Similar to the problem solving insights, but I’ve gotten to the point to where I know my most creative ideas are going to come through my meditation. I feel like meditation pushes all the clutter aside and allows the really good stuff to rise to the surface.
Less Judgement: When you remove all the clutter, you notice that everything is fine just as it is. This results in less judgement of myself and of others.
Feeling Empowered: Just as I feel strong and empowered from going to the gym, I feel the same about taking care of my mental fitness through meditation.
Easier to Deal with Challenges: When challenges arise and you have the peace of mind and less cluttered mind, it’s much easier to address the challenge from that place of peace, rather than from a reactive state of mind.
More Joy: Probably due to all of the above, I feel more joy in my life when I am consistent with my meditation practice. Joy is a natural state of being for all of us, but when we clutter it up with all the muck of day to day life, we can overlook it. But it’s there. It’s always there. Meditation helps you notice it.
Less Stress: Way less stress.
Gives you a Glow: The inner glow that meditation creates reflects on the outside as well.
Makes you More Beautiful: Your truest beauty begins from within. When you feel less stressed, when your mind is not cluttered, when you’re more free from judgement, that is beautiful! And it’s going to show up on the outside as well.
Helps you Look and Feel Ageless! Much of what ages us (physically, mentally, and emotionally) is the stress and negative energy (judgement, anxiety, worry, doubt, anger) that we carry around with us. It weighs us down, pulls us down! And the longer we move on through the years, the heavier this weight will become… unless we begin to let it all go. Meditation is so helpful in letting all of this go.
Gives you a Much Higher Vibration: Clearing all the clutter that weighs you down does wonders for raising your vibration!
I could go on and on with the benefits I’ve experienced…
There are also countless studies showing the benefits of meditation in mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Let me share just a few that I haven’t already mentioned here…
Reduces Anxiety and Depression
Lowers Risk of Heart Disease
Reduces risk of Hypertension, Diabetes and Obesity
Increases Life Span
Helps with Insomnia
Enhances Self Esteem
These are honestly just a few of the benefits of a regular meditation practice. Once you get started, you’re sure to find plenty more. I’d love to hear about them, so please stop back by and share.
Anyone already established in a practice already? Any benefits you’d like to add? I love hearing about all of the positive effects meditation has on your lives and also sharing them with my readers.
