How old would you be if you didn’t know your real age?
I love that question! Think about it for a minute. How old would you be if you didn’t know your real age?
Would you be older than your real age? Would you be younger than your real age? Or would you be pretty close to the age you actually are right now? How would you even know?
Which brings me to my next several questions:
(Read each question and then sit with it for just a moment)
If you didn’t know your real age, how would you know how you are supposed to act right now?
If you didn’t know your real age, how would you know how old you are supposed to look right now?
If you didn’t know your real age, how would you know how your body is supposed to feel right now? How would you know what your body can do or can not do right now?
Pretty interesting, right?
I posed these questions because I want to begin talking with you about all of the constructs we have built around age and also to begin helping you to expand your idea of who you are as a person beyond whatever age you are right now.
You know how you are supposed to act at the age are are right now because there is an accepted and expected set of behaviors that pretty much everyone does at your age, but if you didn’t know, you could just act like you. What would that be like?
You know how you are supposed to look at the age you are right now because there is an accepted and expected way people your age are supposed to look, but if you didn’t know, you could just look like your own idea of the best possible version of yourself. What would that be like?
You know how your body is supposed to feel and what it’s supposed to be able to do or not do at the age you are right now because there is an accepted and expected way that pretty much everyone in your age group thinks about and uses their body, but if you didn’t know, your body could just feel as good or bad as your circumstances allowed it to feel, and you could just do whatever your body felt like doing based on your conditioning. What would that be like?
If you really had no concept of your age, the way you would act, the way you would look, and the way you would feel about your body would be quite different from what you are currently experiencing as your reality.
Sure, you probably would have grown wiser and gained some maturity by now, and there would be some physical changes in your appearance (thank goodness because you probably don’t care to look like the six year old version of you at the age you are right now), and there may be some changes in your physical capabilities and conditioning depending on your circumstances, but none of it would be based on the constructs of outside influences, it would all be a very natural growing older process.
I will be going further into the constructs around aging and growing older as the blog continues…
I would love to hear what some of your thoughts were as you sat with the questions.
