Exfoliation is a very important part of skin care, no matter your age. But it is especially important as our skin grows more mature.
Exfoliation is a very natural renewal process of the skin, whereby older dead skin cells slough away and newer refreshed skin cells take their place. When we are younger, our skin pretty much takes care of this process itself, exfoliating every 25 days or so. But as we grow older, that turnover slows down, and this can leave skin looking dull and lackluster, and with uneven pigmentation.
Ageless Beauty Tip: One very big difference in younger skin and more mature skin is the rate in which it exfoliates and replenishes itself.
Exfoliating our skin offers a wealth of benefits:
Exfoliating can help prevent fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating collagen synthesis.
Exfoliating can also help improve the appearance of some of those fine lines that are already there by stimulating collagen synthesis.
Exfoliating can help even out skin tone and increase skins luster, giving you more of an even, radiant complexion.
Exfoliating stimulates the lymphatic and circulatory systems, bring blood to the surface of the skin, which improves skin tone and texture over time.
And if you’re using expensive products as a means to maintain youthful skin, you’re basically throwing your money away if the build-up of too many dead skin cells is preventing the product from proper absorption. Exfoliation can remove the dead skin cells that are blocking your products from absorption, allowing your product to be more effective.
Ageless beauties, we can’t overlook the importance of exfoliating our skin. It’s more important now than it ever was.
And this is why I am delighted to offer a review of a tool designed just for the purpose of exfoliation.
Enter Le Edge – ‘The next generation in exfoliation’
About Le Edge
Le Edge is a skin care tool that was developed for the purpose of exfoliation.
You’re probably familiar with exfoliators in the form of peels or scrubs, some of them natural, some of them chemical-based. I use them all the time! Thing is though, while these products can be very effective, they can also be very irritating and abrasive to the skin. They can also upset the delicate balance of the skin.
Le Edge is nothing like that. Le Edge is non-abrasive. It doesn’t scratch your skin and it requires no chemicals, making it a much kinder choice for your skin.
It’s pretty simplistic in it’s design, a surgical grade stainless steel edge (which is the part that does the exfoliating) attached to a small handle. But, you know, often times it’s the most simplistic of things that bring the greatest results.
The idea for Le Edge goes back a long time (so to speak), back to a time when products probably were a lot simpler…
From the Le Edge website:
“We were searching for an all over face and body exfoliating product but could not find one anywhere. Research led us to the Roman tool called the ‘strigil’. In ancient times, Romans would oil themselves and then clean their bodies down with the strigil before entering their steam rooms and bath houses. This led us to creating and manufacturing our own modern day strigil – ‘The Le Edge’.”
One thing that is really cool about Le Edge is that it can be used on all parts of the body, including the face.
And it’s simple to use, especially if made a part of your shower routine since it is to be used on wet skin.
Once skin is wet, you just hold the Le Edge at a 45-degree angle and, using firm pressure, slide the surgical grade stainless steel edge over the area you wish to exfoliate, then move on to the next area.
It doesn’t get much easier than that!
Now, before I go any further. Let me share that Le Edge is a super tool for ageless beauty, but it’s also great for any age.
Some additional benefits of exfoliation at any age include:
-Exfoliating keeps the build-up of toxins off the skin surface preventing breakouts.
-Exfoliating the feet two or three times a week will help with rough and dry feet.
-Exfoliating prevents recurrence of ingrown hairs.
-Sunless Tanners – Exfoliating pre-tan will guarantee you a streak free and even application and prolong the life of your tan.
-Guys – Exfoliating the face prior to shaving helps expose the facial hair follicles giving a closer shave.
My thoughts and experience with Le Edge:
I did a little research on Le Edge before my package even arrived for review, and I have to tell you my first thought upon seeing the actual product…
It’s way smaller than it looked in the pictures on Amazon and on the website.
For this reason, I took the following picture with the quarter next to the product to give you a more clear idea on size.
After I had a moment to adjust my expectations from this product that I thought would be about the size of a small shower squeegee to it’s actual size, it occurred to me that the smaller size made a lot more sense if I was going to be using this tool all over my body, including my face. (I can’t imagine being able to get into a lot of smaller spaces with a shower squeegee sized exfoliator) 😉
Next, the actual test.
I used the tool in the shower as suggested. Wet skin. Slide edge over areas to be exfoliated. I used a firm pressure, as suggested. It didn’t hurt at all. It took about 2-3 minutes to do my whole body, including my face.
Now, before I go into telling you that my skin really did feel softer and even looked more radiant after that first use, I have to share that I normally use a mesh sponge (abrasive – I may have to toss that now that I have this product). I also use a lot of potions and moisturizers on my skin. So, my skin is already pretty darn soft and most of the time looks refreshed.
But, after I got out of the shower and was applying my normal skin oils and moisturizers, there was a noticeable difference in the texture of my skin. How nice!
It’s less messy than peels and scrubs (especially scrubs)! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve used a peel or scrub in the shower, and try as I may to not get it in my hair… I do. And yes… I’ve tried using my peels and scrubs out of the shower and many, many times, I’ve found that I still had little beads of product left on my skin… no matter how much I rinsed. Peels and scrubs can be messy! Le Edge is not messy.
You only need one product for skin and body! And it’s little. This means no excess bottles and jars taking up space in the shower.
It’s a natural product. If you’re concerned about putting chemicals on your skin, this is a nice natural solution for exfoliation. And unlike mesh sponges and other natural scrubby products, like loofas, Le Edge is non-abrasive.
It’s a bit pricey. It sells for $69.99. I would feel a price of $29.99, maybe even $39.99, would make more sense. At that price point, they would probably sell a lot more product too.
The product came with a simple print out for instructions. This works fine for me but I do know people who need specific instructions and would probably want a bit more here. As an example, I was wondering if it would be best to use the tool before I soap up and rinse off, or after. (I highly doubt it matters) I was also wondering how often one should use the tool. (I’m going to use it daily just as I’ve used other exfoliating products. If I find my skin getting sensitive, I will adjust my use) Others may want more specific answers.
Wrapping it up:
I like it! I’m going to keep using it. I don’t know how long they are meant to last, but it does come with a 12-month warranty, so I would guess it lasts at least that long, and probably much longer.
