One thing about looking and feeling ageless is having a body that is functioning at its best. And, to me, one way to help our bodies function at their best is to make sure we are providing them with all of the vital nutrients that they need.
Sometimes we can do this with food, but there are other times when diet alone may not be enough.
One of the nutrients that can be difficult to get enough of through our diet alone is magnesium.
It is estimated that anywhere from 50 – 80% of adults in the US are not getting an adequate amount of magnesium in their daily diet.
There are a number of reasons for this, including stress, a poor diet, medications; but the main reason we have become so deficient in magnesium and other minerals is modern agriculture.
Just 50 years ago, our soil was abundant and mineral rich, and it was probably possible to get most of our vital minerals from our food, but, since that time, our soil has become depleted of magnesium and other minerals and, as a result, the crops that come from the soil have become less nutrient dense.
Thus, we may be still eating the same foods but we’re getting less nutrition from them.
Magnesium is present in every organ in the human body and plays a part in over 300 reactions that regulate health and wellness in the body. It’s important!
SOME COMMON SYMPTOMS OF MAGNESIUM MINERAL DEFICIENCY INCLUDE:
- Anxiety and Stress
- Insomnia and poor quality sleep
- Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS)
- Migraine and headaches
- Muscle Cramping, Muscle spasm and weakness
- Thinning hair and hair loss
- Accelerated aging of the skin
- Appearance Cellulite
- Abnormal heart rhythms
- Low blood pressure
I’ve known of the importance of magnesium and have been taking oral magnesium for several years now, but, a short time ago, I was scrolling down my facebook feed and saw a promoted brand promoting their magnesium oils within the feed (clever how facebook does that, right?). I was intrigued and reached out to see if I could try out some of their products.
The Brand – Seven Minerals
From the Seven Minerals website:
“We use the very best Magnesium Oil available on the market. Our Magnesium Oil is mined from its purest state, deep within a 250 million year-old Permian Seabed in the Southern United States. It is then tested to U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) Grade by PhD chemists to ensure that it is safe and 100% pure. There are very few brands on the market that can claim such purity about their Magnesium Oil.”
Seven Minerals® products are made in The USA in a state of the art, FDA registered facility.
Seven Minerals carries Magnesium Oils, Magnesium Oil Blends (Oils blended with aromatherapy oils for specific purposes), Magnesium Salts, Magnesium-based Lotions, and Aloe Vera Products.
The Original Pure Magnesium Oil is Magnesium Chloride (USP Grade) with Purified Water.
Magnesium Chloride is the most bioavailable inorganic magnesium known and has the ability to be absorbed rapidly via the skin directly to your cells.
This form of magnesium is already in its ionic state and requires no further processing by the body, unlike other forms that are ingested. (This is a big bonus for those who have gastrointestinal issues with taking supplemental magnesium)
8 Sprays of the Pure Magnesium Oil equals approximately 215 mg of Elemental Magnesium.
For the blends, Seven Minerals combines their USP Grade Magnesium Oil with aromatherapy oils known for their beauty and wellness properties.
From Seven Minerals:
“Because the magnesium chloride can be easily absorbed into the bloodstream via the skin it also can be used as a delivery agent for a range of alternative care ingredients.”
Seven Minerals currently carries seven different Magnesium Oil Blends, including Migraine & Headache, Sleep Well, Restless Legs, Stress & Anxiety, Cellulite, Sore Muscles, and Anti-Hair Loss.
My Thoughts and Experience
I was provided with a bottle of the original USP Grade Magnesium Oil as well as two of the Magnesium Oil Blends, the Sleep Well Blend and the Cellulite Blend.
First, I tried the Pure Magnesium Oil Spray
The directions are to spray the oil directly onto clean skin, particularly the bottom of the feet, or it can be massaged right into a sore area. It should be fully absorbed in about 20 minutes.
Some people do experience itching from using the pure oil. I did not. Seven Minerals makes a blend that has aloe vera in it for those who may be more sensitive.
While I have read reviews of people experiencing instant relief from symptoms of magnesium deficiency after using a magnesium oil, I have been using oral magnesium for some time, thus I have no symptoms of deficiency, so I have nothing to go by in this regard.
For purposes of this review, I did, however, want to know if the magnesium was really getting into my system, so, once I began using the magnesium oil spray, I cut my normal oral dose of magnesium in half.
Magnesium is not stored by the body, thus it needs to be replenished regularly, so I assume it wouldn’t take long to tell if I were having a deficiency.
I did this for three weeks and I noticed no changes. To me, this shows that the magnesium from the magnesium oil did get into my system.
I also tried out a couple of the Magnesium Oil Blends, Sleep Well and the Cellulite Blend.
The Sleep Well Blend ingredients are Liquid Magnesium Chloride (USP Grade), Organic Cedarwood Oil, Organic Lavender Oil, Organic Sweet Marjoram Oil, Organic Clary Sage Oil.
Magnesium Oil is already a natural relaxant and the added ingredients of this blend are used to calm and relax the body for a better night’s rest.
I have to say, I am already a great sleeper, so I didn’t really need the Sleep Well Blend. I did, however, want to try it for the relaxation effect… and yes, it definitely seems to relax me even more so than the plain magnesium. It’s a great way to drift off to a peaceful nights rest.
This Cellulite Blend ingredients are Liquid Magnesium Chloride (USP Grade), Organic Grapefruit Oil, Organic Juniper Oil, Organic Fennel Oil, and Organic Cypress Oil.
The goal of this blend is regeneration and detoxification.
Many of you know I use the fasciablaster as a wellness and beauty tool and one of the main things the fasciablaster does is help with cellulite. I don’t have much, especially now that I have been blasting for 9 months, but there are a couple of little stubborn pockets here and there.
Although it can take up to three months to notice results from using this spray, I used it on the areas I was having difficulty with and I believe it has already helped in smoothing out the tissue. I’m guessing it may have helped detox the tissues.
Note: I am not going to mislead anyone. I believe my fasciablaster is mostly responsible for my lack of cellulite, but I do believe in the science behind this Cellulite Blend and believe it is helping with detoxing the tissue.
Love that it’s in a transdermal form. This is a huge benefit for those who have issues with taking oral magnesium.
The Sleep Formula smells so good and it is super relaxing. If relaxing before falling asleep is an issue for you, it can definitely help you wind down so that you can fall asleep easier.
The Cellulite Blend seems to help detox the tissues and maybe even help in regeneration of healthier tissue.
I can’t call it a con, but, because there is no good way to test magnesium levels, I can’t honestly say if my levels have gotten better or not. I can only assume they have due to feeling really great.
Wrapping it up
I don’t know that I will stop taking my oral magnesium altogether, but I will keep my dose down at its half level and continue with the Magnesium Oil spray. I really like it!
The blends are great also. I will continue using them and probably try a few more of them.
Where to find the product:
You can purchase the products and find out more about all of the Seven Minerals products on their website.
